Some Thinking is Dumb Thinking
I can imagine the "conversation". It went something like this:
Well, what a great new restaurant we have here now. It's great that everyone can come enjoy our great new place. Our non-smoking section is on this side and our smoking section is here. This is great. Just great. Everyone has a place to enjoy our great new restaurant.
Dumb thinking. And I let the hostess know when she seated my wife and two-year-old son ten feet
away from the smokers in the "non-smoking" section. We just drove all night and the last thing we needed was smoke for breakfast. Sometimes, thinking that appears inclusive is not. It is, well, dumb.
Dumb thinking exists everywhere. And the wonderful world of Academia is not spared such thought.
I'll bet you can think of an example right now.

So What Is Web 4.0 Gonna Bring?
Does anyone see a problem with the numbering of "new" internet-based movements?
* Web 1.0=static
* Web 2.0=interactive and participatory
* Web 3.0, 4.0=??
These movements are taken to be philosophies as much as anything which then create false dichotomies. What comes after interactive? Do we have to call it "3.0" then "4.0"? The danger is the problem of how humans view time and 'progress'. The tendency is to discard what came before ENTIRELY. (Advertising taught us this).
But can't one just think, read, learn and DO no matter what the number attached to the 'ism' of the moment.
I think so.
