: Some Thinking is Dumb Thinking

I can imagine the "conversation". It went something like this:

Well, what a great new restaurant we have here now. It's great that everyone can come enjoy our great new place. Our non-smoking section is on this side and our smoking section is here. This is great. Just great. Everyone has a place to enjoy our great new restaurant.

Dumb thinking. And I let the hostess know when she seated my wife and two-year-old son ten feet
away from the smokers in the "non-smoking" section. We just drove all night and the last thing we needed was smoke for breakfast. Sometimes, thinking that appears inclusive is not. It is, well, dumb.

Dumb thinking exists everywhere. And the wonderful world of Academia is not spared such thought.
I'll bet you can think of an example right now.
